2011 Honda Li Nian S1 unveiled at the 2010 Guangzhou Auto Show

Honda has officially introduced the Li Nian S1 at the 2010 China International Automobile Exhibition. Earlier this year, Honda had hinted that it will offer a value-based Chinese sub-brand and model range. The S1 is not at all comparable to the Everus concept shown at the 2010 Beijing auto show but it is expected to enable Honda to make an impact and enter the Chinese market. Essentially, the S1 is a modified version of the previous-generation City sedan, given several cosmetic tweaks. It does appear to be inspired by the current Honda City, which shares its platform with the Fit hatchback.

Honda has not announced the specs for the car but it had revealed that the powertrain will mirror the last iteration of the City. Honda has confirmed that both 1.3-liter and 1.5-liter I-4 engines will be available but power ratings have yet to be disclosed.

Its likely that transmission offerings will include a five-speed manual and a five-speed automatic but there may also be a CVT (which was offered in select markets). Honda is targeting young Chinese buyers, especially those who are looking for their first vehicle. This means that it will be priced low in order to compete with rivals such as the BYD F3 and L3. The S1 arrives in Honda showrooms across China in the spring.[via-3wheelsnews]
