The new Lotus Evora 414E hybrid, launched this month (March 2010) at the 80th International Geneva Motor Show, displays some of the industrys latest high performance and environmentally friendly technology.

Lotus Evora 414E Hybrid

This latest model boasts an eco-focused demonstrator, and 306KW of power, along with a very efficient propulsion system. The new technologies make the driver feel more involved and retain the sports car character and performance associated with this brand. A glass roof and engine cover are part of this models innovative design.

Lotus says this vehicle can reach 60 miles in less than four seconds, and although theres only single-speed transmission, the new Evora is designed with the sensation of gear changes incorporated in the engineering.

The lithium polymer batteries, optimised for energy density and efficiency, can be charged from a regular plug overnight, and the range on electric power is 35 miles. On greater distances, this goes up to 300 miles thanks to the 47bhp 1.2 litre three-cylinder range extender engine, specifically designed for this series.

An electric motor powers each rear wheel independently via single speed geartrain. This has allowed Lotus to devise a sophisticated torque vectoring system, adjusting the power to each wheel and giving more stability at higher speeds.

Youll notice the standard Evora chassis, but a plug-in hybrid system is in place instead of the petrol-fuelled drivetrain.

This model even features sound synthesis to recreate various different engine sounds in and outside the vehicle, and making it easy for pedestrians to hear the car coming.
