Say what you want about the Panamera, but fact is the sports saloon model has proved to be a hit for Porsche with the company having delivered close to 10,000 units in the first five months of the year alone.
The Panamera�s success has of course caught the attention of the aftermarket industry with more and more companies jumping on the tuning bandwagon. This here proposal comes courtesy of Afzal Kahn and his crew.

Porsche has announced that it is recalling 1,702 911s equipped with center locking hubs. The affected 911s were sold in the United States and are from the 2010-2011 model years manufactured from May 18, 2009 through to September 17, 2010.

Lumma Design Restyles the New Porsche Cayenne II

You didn�t think the German tuning industry was done with the second generation of the Porsche Cayenne, did you? Of course not. Say hello to the new Porsche Cayenne CLR 558 GT dressed up by none other than Lumma Design.
The German design house�s CLR 558 GT package upgrades the appearance of the luxury SUV with a new wide body aero kit. It comprises of a redesigned, two-tone front bumper with a plethora of LEDs and fog lights, a carbon Kevlar hood with air vents, high rising side skirts, wheel arch extensions, and a restyled rear bumper housing a diffuser and three central mounted exhaust tail pipes.

Porsche 997 GT3 RS

Porsche has several trim levels for the current version of the 911, called the 997. One of the trim levels is the Porsche 997 GT3 RS, the race car version of the 997 GT3 that can be driven on everyday roads. The GT3 RS is lighter, more powerful and quicker, but has a lower top speed than the GT3.

The 997 GT3 RS can be seen at track days and on the roads. I have seen quite a few on the streets of Houston and at Houston Car and Coffee events. While there are several different types of 911s at Houston Car and Coffee events, the 997 GT3 RS will stand out in any crowd. Whether it has grey, white, blue, orange, or green paint job, you know it is a GT3 RS because it will have a decal on the side or the rear panels saying GT3 RS. It has the body of a 997 with a big spoiler on the back.

The GT3 RS is powered by a 3.8L flat-6 engine, paired with a six-speed manual transmission, that produces 450 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque. It goes from 0 to 60 mph in 4.0 seconds and has a top speed of 193 mph. Prices start at $132,800. Porsche has announced a 4.0L flat-6 engine for the GT3 RS. The 997 GT3 RS cost more than the 997 GT3, yet the performance between the two cars is nearly identical.

The Porsche 997 GT3 RS has been featured a couple of times on Top Gear. It was driven by Richard Hammond when the guys were looking for the greatest driving road in the world during Series 10, Episode 1. Richard Hammond drove the 997 GT3 RS again during the 2010 USA Road Trip special. It has been featured at Jay Leno's Garage. Motorweek reviewed the car, which can be seen here. The Porsche 997 GT3 RS is playable in Need For Speed: Carbon, Need For Speed: Pro Street, Need For Speed: Shift, Shift 2: Unleashed, Forza Motorsport 2, Forza Motorsport 3, Need For Speed: Undercover, and Need For Speed: Nitro.

Final Thought: It is lighter and more powerful than the 997 GT3, yet the 997 GT3 RS is slightly quicker, has a lower top speed, and cost more than the 997 GT3. Besides, there are faster, quicker, more stylish, and less expensive cars than the GT3 RS on the road. The color and accents of the 997 GT3 RS make it stand out and cops will easily spot a GT3 RS speeding. My recommendation is to go with the 997 GT3 over the GT3 RS. You will save money.

First Impression: Porsche 997 GT3

Porsche has been making 911s since 1964. The 911 is known for having a flat-6 engine located in the rear of the car, just above the rear wheels. The current range of  the 911 is called the 997. One of the variants of the 997 is the Porsche 997 GT3.

I first was the Porsche 997 GT3 at the October 2010 edition of Houston Cars and Coffee. It did not stand out when a Ferrari F40, Lamborghini Diablo and Gumpert Apollo were present. There are many different 991 variants at Cars and Coffee that a 977 GT3 would not stand out from the crowd. The 911 has had a consistent design style, but the 911 never was considered a good-looking car.

The Porsche 977 GT3 is powered by a naturally aspirated 3.8L flat-6 engine, paired with a six-speed manual transmission, that produces 429 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque. The 977 GT3 goes from 0 to 60 mph in 4.0 seconds and reaches a top speed of 194 mph. Prices for the 997 GT3 start at $112,200. It is quick and fast. The price is relatively low for a high-performing sports car.

Final Thoughts: It is a good sports car. There are better performing sports cars on the road, but few can match the price of the 997 GT3. Porsche knew what it was doing when it put a flat-6 engine in the rear of the car.

Investigators Uncover Multi-Million Pound Tax Scam in India; European Exotics, Foreign Diplomats and Bollywood Actors Involved

In what sounds more like the plot of a The Fast and the Furious movie than real life, investigators at India�s Directorate of Revenue Intelligence office (a.k.a. India�s IRS) have uncovered a massive exotic car smuggling operation in the nation�s capital of New Dehli. It all has to do with India�s notorious 100% import tax on new luxury vehicles.
It began with one New Dehli luxury car dealer, Sumit Walia, importing brand new luxury cars on forged invoices. These invoices listed the cars as second-hand, which saved Walia � and his customers � some 40% on import tax. Some of the cars � which included Porsches, Bentleys and Aston Martins � were found to have been stolen from the streets of Britain, France, Singapore and Japan.

Decorative Overkill on a Porsche Cayenne SUV

While never mainstream, car decorations in the broadest sense of the word have always appealed to certain people. However, this is something you expect to see on an old, probably run down, conventional vehicle and not on a fairly new upscale model like the first generation Porsche Cayenne SUV�.

First Impression: Porsche Panamera

It is so hard to get a picture of the Panamera that won't break the camera

Porsche has been making cars since 1931. In its history, no Porsche had ever more than three doors, until now. The Porsche Panamera is the first and only Porsche sedan. It is a five-door, four-seat hatchback. It is a full size luxury car. It is big. There is debate whether the Panamera is worthy of the Porsche badge.

I first saw the Porsche Panamera in San Antonio. When I first saw it, I could not believe it was a Porsche. I think it is one of the ugliest cars ever made. The back of the car ruins the looks. The rear brake lights do not flush with the rear hatch, and it affects how the rear looks. Porsche sacrificed its exterior appearance to add extra head room for the back passengers. A person who is 6' 3" could sit comfortably in the back.

The Panamera comes with a variety of engines, 3.0L V6 diesel, 3.6L V6, 3.0L V6 hybrid, 4.8L V8, and 4.8L twin turbo V8, and comes with a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual clutch transmission. The fastest version of the this model, the Panamera Turbo S, comes with the 4.8L twin turbo V8 that produces 550 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. It goes from 0 to 60 in 3.6 seconds and reaches a top speed of 190 mph. This is one of the fastest sedans on the market. Prices for the basic Panamera start at $74,400, and prices for the Panamera Turbo S start at $173,200. That is very high price for a car with looks only a mother could love. Then again, Porsche is more known for performance, not looks.

Top Gear featured the Panamera S during Series 13, Episode 4, where James May and Richard Hammond raced the Royal Mail Service from the most southern point in Britain to the most northern part in Britain. Top Gear featured the Panamera Turbo in Series 15, Episode 3, where the boys were comparing three four-door supercars. Top Gear USA featured the Panamera Turbo during Episode 8. It set the fourth fastest time on the Top Gear USA track. Motorweek also did a review of the Panamera. The Panamera is playable in Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit, drivable for both the police and racer factions, and Forza Motorsport 3.

Final Thoughts: It is an ugly car. I see more and more Panameras on the road. People bring them to Houston Cars and Coffee. I also saw one in Tel Aviv, and got into a debate whether the Panamera is worthy of the badge or not. The other person says it is too ugly to be a Porsche. I think the Panamera is a stretched version of the Porsche 928 with two extra doors. The other difference between the 928 and the Panamera is that the 928 is easy on the eyes, where as the Panamera looks like it was beaten with the ugly stick. Even with its bad looks, the Panamera performs like a Porsche, and is, in my mind, worthy of being called a Porsche.

First Impression: Porsche Carrera GT

Porsche Carrera GT is a Porsche like no other. It is a two-seater supercar with a removable roof. It is the only Porsche with a ten cylinder engine, not the flat-6 engine found in the 911. Also the engine is in the middle of the Carrera GT, where the 911 has the engine in the rear. It was produced from 2004 to 2006, with only 1,270 Carrera GTs produced.

I first saw the Porsche Carrera GT at the September 2010 edition of Houston Cars and Coffee. There were two Carrera GTs next to each other. I like the design of the car with its sleek design. It is one of the few Porsches that is not an eye sore. At the January 2011 edition of Houston Cars and Coffee, there was a huge crowd around it.

The Porsche Carrera GT is powered by a 5.7L DOHC V10, paired with a two plate ceramid dry clutch six-speed manual transmission, that produces 612 hp and 435 lb-ft of torque. It goes from 0 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 205 mph, tied with the 911 GT2 RS as the fastest Porsche. When it was new, the Carrera GT cost $440,000, making it the most expensive Porsche.

Top Gear reviewed the Porsche Carrera GT during Series 4, Episode 4, where it set the power lap time, and was featured again during Series 5, Episode 2, where Jeremy Clarkson was comparing modern supercars to classic supercars. Jay Leno featured his Carrera GT on his website, www.jaylenosgarage.com. It is a staple in the Need For Speed, Forza Motorsport, and Burnout games. It is also playable in Split/Second (Corbretti Slipstream), Drag Racer 1 and 3, Drift City, RayCity, Colin's Crazy Carrera, Project Gotham Racing 2.

Final Thoughts: It is a Porsche like no others. I like its design and I think it is one of the best pure roadsters people can buy. It is a fast car. I just think it is a little expensive for what it is. I just cannot wait for Porsche to release the 918 hybrid Spyder.

Porsche Releases Details on All-Electric Boxster E RWD and AWD Prototypes

Back in February, Porsche announced the development of three pure-electric prototypes based on the Boxster roadster, but aside from a single photo and the fact that the electric motors could produce up to 180kW/241HP, the Stuttgart-based automaker did not release any other details on the cars.
After the demonstration of the Boxster E at last week�s Michelin Challenge Bibendum in Berlin, the company decided to share more information on the test cars that are being used as part of the government-funded �Model Region Electro-Mobility Stuttgart� large-scale trial to study the everyday practicality of all-electric vehicles. Of the three Boxster E prototypes, two are rear-wheel drive and one is all-wheel drive.

2012 Porsche Panamera S Hybrid

2012 Porsche Panamera Turbo S Review

The new Porsche Panamera Turbo S is the bar of luxury sports cars with four doors. The newest addition to the Gran Turismo series offers a unique combination of performance and efficiency, driving dynamics and comfort. The 4.8-liter V8 bi-turbo hp (410 kW) 550, an increase of ten percent or 50 hp (37 kW) more than the Panamera Turbo. Classic Car: Porsche 928

Porsche is known for the 911, a car that has been around since 1964. The 911 is known for having a flat-6 engine located in the back of the vehicle and is air-cooled. This is a radical design characteristic of the 911 because most engines are located in the front of the car or right behind the passengers. In 1977, Porsche produced the 928, the only grand tourer ever made by Porsche. The 928 was the only Porsche coupe to have V8 engine in the front and Porsche's first mass produced V8 powered model. The 928 was intended to replace the 911. Production for the 928 ceased in 1995, while the 911 is still being made today.

I first saw the Porsche 928 at the September edition of Houston Cars and Coffee. I saw it while I was walking back to my car. I think it is one of the best looking cars that Porsche has ever made. I rarely see a 928 on the road and I have seen the 928 at the April edition of Houston Cars and Coffee. 

The original 928, produced from 1977 to 1982, had a 4.5L V8 that produced 219 hp and 254 lb-ft of torque and came with a three-speed automatic or a five-speed manual transmission. It could go from 0 to 60 mph in 6.4 seconds and had a top speed of 151 mph. The 928 S, produced from 1983 to 1986, had two engine options. The 4.7L V8 produced 239 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque and came with a four-speed automatic or a five-speed manual transmission. The 928 2 went from from 0 to 60 mph in 6.1 seconds and reached a top speed of  154. In 1985, a 5.0L engine was put into the 928 S. It produced 284 hp in 1985 and 288 hp in 1986. The 928 S4, produced from 1987 to 1991, and the 928 GT, produced from 1989 to 1991, both came with a 5.0L V8 that produced 316 hp and 317 lb-ft  of torque. The 928 S4 came with a four-speed automatic transmission and the 928 GT came with a five-speed manual transmission. The 928 S4/GT went from 0 to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds and reached a top speed of 165 mph. The final model, 928 GTS, was produced from 1991 to 1995. The 5.4L V8 that came with the 928 GTS produced 345 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque and came with either a four-speed automatic or a five-speed manual transmission. It went from 0 to 60 mph in 5.14 seconds and reached a top speed of 171 mph. The 928 was a fast car.

I have seen the Porsche 928 on Wheeler Dealers. Mike Brewer and Ed China bought one for 1600 pounds, spent another 3400 pounds to fix it up, and sold it for 6000 pounds. Top Gear had a Porsche Challenge where Jeremy Clarkson spent 1500 pounds on a 928 that had seen better days. It is playable in Need For Speed: Porsche Unleashed, Chase HQ, Super Chase HQ, Super Chase: Criminal Termination, Scarface: The World is Yours, Ultimate Stunts, Sideswiped, and Re-Volt.

Final Thoughts: It is an unique Porsche. 61056 928s were produced. It is a classic sports car and as of the time I am writing, it is available on Auto Trader Classics with prices starting at $8000 and end at $37900. Just make sure you have a trusted mechanic when buying or owning a classic sports car. It is the best looking car Porsche has made. There are rumors that Porsche is bringing back the 928 and I would be in favor of the 928's revival.

SCOOP: 2013 Porsche Cayman Shows up on the Track

These are some of the very first spy shots of the next generation Porsche Cayman sports coupe snagged while performing the usual tests on the track. As is the case with the current Cayman, the German firm�s entry-level coupe will be based on the Boxster, the third generation of which is currently undergoing development and has been covered extensively by Carscoop. The two models will share the same architecture, mechanical hardware including the engine range and suspension bits as well as interior parts.
