2011 Naza-Kia Forte 2.0 tested

It has often been published that the Koreans are in a - vastly improved - league of their own with their newer generation automobiles for this new decade. Cheap (in relative terms, of course) doesn't mean nasty and low rent anymore. While some may loath at the very sight of a Korean automotive badge, there is no denying that the prime example that you see above has a lot more to offer under its sleeve. Especially in its upgraded form which has been available in our Malaysian market since early this year (2011).

I could still vividly remember how much likeable the Forte 1.6 EX/SX was in 2010 when I reviewed these lesser versions. Even the larger capacity 2.0SX paled quite miserably with its lifeless steering with a bubble-gummy feel just off-centre, being an electric-powered assisted rack. In the meantime, the 4-speed A/T was not geared to appreciably harness the added flexibility of a 2.0L lump.

Fast forward to the 2011 Forte 2.0 - with 6A/T - these bugbears are gone, especially the synthetic-feel steering. In fact, it's well weighted and tied down now, though a tad "artificially coloured" it may seem but heck, it's a vast improvement. It even hints you of that "Zoom Zoom" feedback or that premium "The Power of Dreams" feel.

At highway speed, tracking corners seem more brilliant with the suspension just nicely damped with incisive suspension rebound i.e. taut body control. No wallow, no pitching. Acceptable body roll should you gun it into bends. High speed stability around its tested Vmax of 200km/h was let's say, comforting, cosseting and confident. Wind noise and road noise level remained impressive for its class at that 'lofty' velocity as well.

Tractability going about in town or suburb traffic is much improved with the new 6-speeder while the implanted rear-view camera display proved more than just a gimmick. Though the display image was a wee bit constrained by the height of the central rear-view mirror dimension, it worked perfectly well for all the reversed parking I managed to execute.

However, all isn't rosy from this Korean camp C-segment offspring. For one, I fail to understand why there is the lack of external boot release handle/rubber-strip switch at the rear - usually recessed in the rear number plate upper frame/garnish. You simply must press the button on the remote fob, how so inconvenient for a key/fob-less entry enabled car! Or you must tug the boot release lever on the floor carpet below and to the right of the driver's seat. The other sore (eye) point is why their generic-looking engine cover(s) do not seem to greet you "Annyeonghaseyo" as friendly the others say "Konichiwa" or "Guten Tag", just to name a couple of established examples.

I do have to apologise for not observing its fuel economy (trip computer was displaying 12.0l to 13.0l/100km mostly!). In the new Forte 2.0, most of the time I was having fun stretching its legs on almost every trip out in this "budget" 2.0-litre sedan, which is convincingly far from looking, feeling or driving budget-y in nature.

Kia Forte Koup, 2010

Kia Forte Koup, 2010

The Kia Forte Koup's fluid lines and balanced proportions, meant to evoke an emotional driving experience, closely mirror the powerful design cues of the concept vehicle and offer the same aggressive stance with swept-back wrap-around headlamps, aggressive air intakes and a low, sleek profile. Based on the design styling of the Kia KOUP concept vehicle.  Kia Forte Koup exudes attitude with slim, wrapped tail lights, duel exhaust outlets and a rear diffuser.
The Athleticism and convenience are standard for the Kia Forte Koup EX with body-color bumpers, power heated outside mirrors with integrated turn signals and 16-inch alloy wheels outfitted with P205/55R16 tires. The SX trim offers an even sportier profile with 17-inch alloy wheels paired with P215/45R17-sized premium tires.

Smooth and Sporty Ride
With a wheelbase of 104.3 inches, an overall length of 176.4 inches, an overall width of 69.5 inches and overall height of 55.1 inches, Kia Forte Koup is slightly shorter in length and height than the Forte sedan, but still boasts comfortable seating for up to five passengers. Koup's lowered stance provides better aerodynamics for those looking for a more exciting ride.

The Kia-engineered body achieves high torsional stiffness giving Kia Forte Koup better handling, smoother ride quality and greater refinement than its competitors, with a specially tuned suspension developed to optimize responsive handling on curvy roads. Additional refinements are fitted throughout to help ensure a comfortable ride with good noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) reduction qualities.
Built on a front-wheel-drive unibody frame, Kia Forte Koup utilizes the same platform as the sedan, with an independent front suspension with MacPherson struts and stabilizer bar and a torsion beam rear suspension with struts and coil springs. This combination helps provide the optimal balance of handling and comfort. An engine-speed-sensitive, power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering system adds the finishing touch for precise handling to help provide the most advantageous amount of assist for varying road conditions. The SX trim also comes with a sport-tuned suspension providing for a firmer ride with reduced body roll and improved handling.

The Lively Performance
More powerful than the Honda Civic Coupe, Ford Focus Coupe or Chevrolet Cobalt Coupe, Kia Forte Koup EX is driven by a 2.0-liter DOHC four-cylinder engine, producing 156 horsepower and 144 pound-feet of torque that features Continuously Variable Valve Timing (CVVT) and multi-port electronic fuel injection, both of which provide for greater performance and fuel economy. The SX features an upgraded 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder engine, also with CVVT, which delivers 173 horsepower and 168 pound-feet of torque, more than the Scion tC. Expanding upon the dynamic look and feel, Kia Forte Koup's engine hums powerfully courtesy of the dual exhaust outlets outfitted on both EX and SX trims.

Like the Forte sedan, two transmission options are available for both 2010 Forte Koup models: a standard five-speed manual transmission or an optional electronically controlled four-speed automatic transmission (EX models). The SX model features a standard six-speed manual transmission and an optional five-speed automatic transmission with Sportmatic.
Kia Forte Koup fuel economy is not sacrificed for sportiness, as both engines deliver at least 31 miles per gallon (highway). The 2.0-liter engine offers 25/34 mpg (city/highway) when mated with either the five-speed manual transmission or the optional four-speed automatic. Those opting for the more powerful 2.4-liter engine also can expect an economical 22/32 mpg with the six-speed manual and 23/31 when paired with the five-speed automatic transmission.

The Striking Interior
With a surprisingly spacious interior for a two-door coupe, Kia Forte Koup provides a comfortable 90.7 cubic feet of interior volume, larger than the 2009 Honda Civic Coupe, Scion tC or Chevrolet Cobalt Coupe. Driver and passengers have an impressive 38.7 inches of headroom and 43.6 inches of legroom in the front seats and 35.3 inches of headroom and 33.9 inches of legroom in the rear seats. Trips to the beach and weekend getaways will be a breeze with ample cargo space of 12.6 cubic feet, enough to accommodate luggage and belongings of all passengers.

Kia Forte Koup continues the luxury treatment with a host of standard interior features, beginning with supportive, nicely appointed sport seats outfitted with more aggressive bolsters on the seat cushion and seat back for optimal comfort. Air conditioning, a driver's seat height adjuster, adjustable rear seat headrests, tilt steering column, rear defroster, center console with dual cup holders, map lamps and variable intermittent wipers are also just some of the myriad amenities standard on every vehicle. Also standard on all models are power windows, power door locks with remote keyless entry and cruise control with steering wheel-mounted controls for added convenience.
Progressing to the SX trim offers additional standard touches such as: unique sport cloth seats with vibrant red stitching, a tilt and telescoping steering column, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, metal pedals and metal finish trim and a Supervision gauge cluster with trip computer further enhancing its energetic personality. Both EX and SX trims also offer an optional power moonroof.
An optional Leather Package is available for both EX and SX trims. When combined with the EX trim the Leather Package adds leather seats, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob and heated seats. When paired with the SX trim it includes leather and heated seats in addition to the standard leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob.

Standard Kia Motors Safety
The Kia Forte Koup is a class-leading level of standard safety equipment, with features such as dual front advanced airbags, front seat-mounted and side curtain airbags, four-wheel disc brakes with an antilock brake system (ABS), electronic stability control (ESC) and a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

New Kia Forte 2011

2011 Kia Forte receive aesthetics and some mechanical changes, but the most visible changes is the introduction of the five-door hatchback Forte. Edmunds says that with these upgrades, the Forte is "good enough to compete with the stars segment lasting from Honda and Toyota."

In 2010, Kia Forte launched its new all in an effort to redeem himself from 2009 Spectra's poor reputation among the automotive press. Kia successfully, and 2010, Forte became a favorite reviewer for ample cargo space, reasonable prices and a strong list of standard features. For 2011, the sedan and the Kia Forte Koup models remain largely unchanged. Kia, however, has added another model to the lineup Forte: a five-door hatchback.

Not only a new body styles, five-door Forte also predict some changes which come for the whole family Forte. hatched a new grille and fascia design will migrate to the Forte sedan and coupe for 2011, as it will begin to push buttons and paddle shifters is available. More importantly, they paddle shifters will direct a new six-speed automatic transmission, so that both automatic and manual will be a six-speed for 2011. As with the entire family Forte, five-door offers inline 2.0-liter and 2.4-crawling.

The five-door hatchback will have the same engine with the sedan and Koup, but adopted a six-speed automatic transmission or a new manual that is not available with the sedan model 2010 and Koup. New transmission should improve fuel economy, but the Kia nor the EPA has released its fuel economy ratings.

Some aspects of the five-door hatchback model brings to 2011sedan and Koup. Sedan and Koup will upgrade to a six-speed manual or automatic transmission and adopting a new grille design and the fascia, push-button starting system and paddle shifters. This model is they keep a list of class-leading standard features that include Bluetooth, SIRIUS satellite radio and iPod connectivity.

Release automotive Forte acknowledges that isn'ta strong car, but at the price, satisfied with the enthusiastic reviews the accuracy, attitude and improvement in the road.

2011 Kia Forte has two four-cylinder engine options: 2.0-liter that produces 156 horsepower and 2.4-liter that produces 173 horsepower. Both engines have a six-speed manual and automatic options.

Reviewers have various opinions on Forte's performance of 2010. Some say it has a zippy acceleration, while others say it's a bit slow. Although not review Forte's performance was criticized in 2011, their perspective will not change because the 2010 models have the same machine. Release automotive disagree, however, that Forte has a big fuel economy, averaging an EPA-estimated 25 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway, and no fine on the road for cars that do not focus on performance.

Reviewers have a problem with manual and automatic transmission in 2010 Forte. For the manual, making clutch stick shift is not smooth and does not feel right. Also, some members of the automotive press say gas is too aggressive, making the car feel sloppy rather than sporty. Others claim that the gas was not aggressive enough. With 2010 Forte, reviewers have a problem with the manual and automatic transmission. For 2011, however, Forte has a six-speed transmission, so the reviewer opinion may change with this update.

2011 Kia Forte five-door hatchback will be available this fall, but Kia does not provide release dates for 2011 and Koup Forte sedan. Keep checking back as more information was released on the addition of new Kia.

Best Car For Young " KIA Soul "

One question we often ask ourselves or others, which car should I buy for teenagers? In our Best List December-issue, we chose our new favorite car for young drivers: Kia Soul.

A teenager may try to persuade you to buy models, sporty fast (in a Porsche Boxster comes to mind). But the best car for teenagers, some auto experts say, is on the other end of the spectrum - an, older larger sedan cool (think Ford Crown Victoria or aging Volvo station wagon.)

We think the better idea is to buy a small sedan - after all, many state laws limit the number of teen passengers can take - which is also controlled, safe and not go zero to 60 in 5 seconds. In fact, we have a list of attributes to evaluate when choosing a car that is suitable for the young, inexperienced drivers, and Soul score high on all of them:

Top safety pick. The Kia Soul is a Top Safety Pick of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. That means it gets the highest score on the Institutes front, side and rear crash tests. The Soul also has a long list of standard safety features: stability control -- to prevent skids -- four-wheel anti-lock brakes, front side airbags and head curtain airbags. Kia also provides 24-hour roadside assistance for five years or 60,000 miles.

Low ownership costs. The sticker price for the 2010 manual-transmission Soul + is an easy-to-take $15,890. This is our favorite model because it provides a good mix of standard equipment and value. With fuel economy of 30 miles per gallon on the highway and 24 mpg in the city, its relatively cheap to gas up, too.

Low insurance and repair costs. These are important for any family with a teen driver. The cost for a typical family to insure the Soul is $920 a year -- on the low end of the scale for all vehicles. Repair costs are held to a minimum because of Kias warranty, also five-years or 60,000-miles.

High resale value. We put a lot of stock in how well a car holds its value. And with a resale value of 56% of sticker price after three years, the Soul is solidly above average.

Moderate speed. When it comes to power, the Souls horsepower is an adequate -- but not excessive -- 142. This is not a street racer.

Coolness. Even though the Soul isnt going to win Le Mans, it has cachet. The hatchback design is funky-cool, and its fold-down second seats provide more than 53 cubic feet of cargo room, making it easy to haul stuff -- bikes, camping gear, dorm-room supplies. Rear legroom is a roomy 39 inches.

Inside it has a USB connection for an MP3 player, a three-month free subscription to Sirius satellite radio and a Bluetooth hands-free phone connection.

Put it all together and, if youre shopping for a young driver, the Kia Soul should be at the top of your list of cars to consider. If you want to expand your search to other cars, use our checklist to make sure you get a good, safe car.

Reviews 2010 KIA Forte

The brand-new Kia Forte Koup is Kia's first two-door coupe and a sibling to the new Forte sedan, Which is Kia's replacement for its sad-sack Spectra and its answer to cars like the Honda Civic, the Toyota Corolla, and the Mazda3 . The "Koup" moniker is a melding of the "K" from "Kia" and the "OUP" from "coupe." The Forte Koup Will Be at Kia dealers by August or September.

The Kia Forte Koup's fresh, modern styling is definitely a strong point. Along with the Forte sedan, it represents a new design direction for Kia, Which is making a big effort to distinguish its products Visually from corporate parent Hyundai's. The Koup's mesh grille and air intake are part of a new Kia family signature look That you'll see on more cars in the future. A strong shoulder line running the length of the car and the standard 16-inch or optional 17-inch alloy wheels give the Koup a sharp street stance.

We drove two examples of the upper trim levels, the SX; one with a manual transmission and black cloth upholstery, the other with an automatic and black leather. Both Had Some sporty front seats with red stitching and bolstering. The overall cabin design is pleasing, and the build quality is very good. The interior plastics are a little hard to the touch but largely inoffensive. The driver's door armrest needs more padding. The center stack is well-particularly Designed and finished with a glossy black material. Stereo and HVAC controls are logical, and a superb six-speaker CD stereo with iPod/MP3 connectivity is standard. The SX's substantial dead pedal (on the far left of the driver's footwell, for resting your left foot Pls it's not on the clutch) is finished in polished metal like the other pedals.

The base is equipped EX Koup with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine producing 156 hp and 144 lb-ft of torque, while the SX gets a Bigger, 2.4-liter four That bumps up to 173 hp and torque to 168 lb-ft . The Smaller engine is mated to a standard five-speed manual transmission or an optional four-speed automatic, while the 2.4-liter SX gets a six-speed manual as standard and an optional five-speed automatic. These mirrors powertrains Those of the Forte sedan; Forte both models are front-wheel-drive vehicles. EX Both models are rated at 25/34 city / highway EPA fuel economy. The more powerful SX is rated at 22/32 with the manual, 23/31 with the automatic.

The Forte Koup has a strut-type front suspension with coil springs, typical in this class of car, but it makes do with a beam-axle rear suspension, a technical detail That definitely falls short of cars like the Honda Civic and Mazda 3, Which have independent rear suspensions. Over smooth road surfaces, you'll never notice or care, but the going gets rough Pls, stiff springs and the beam axle conspire to send the rear end skittering sideways. Front and rear anti-roll bars are standard.

Overall, the Forte Koup driving meets the standards of this class of car. Body roll is reasonably well-contained, the steering has Some feel to it, if it's a little dead on-center, and there's a distinct lack of the sponginess in chassis and suspension That characterized previous models like the Kia Spectra. Our limited drive in Seoul, South Korea, from Kia's headquarters up to the DMZ was entirely During a major rainstorm, so We have had no opportunity to drive the car on dry pavement. It's fairly clear, though, that although the Kia Forte Koup is no sports car, it's got spirit Enough to keep most drivers happy.

2011 Next-Gen Kia Optima Sports Sedan

The next generation Kia Optima is set to make its world premiere at the 2010 New York International Auto Show. "The next generation of Kia Optima possesses the power to surprise," says Peter Schreyer, Kia's Chief Design Officer. "It's a car that people will simply not expect from Kia - and that's exactly what we set out to achieve." Kia has officially unveiled the next Optima four-door coupe, ahead of the full reveal set to take place at the 2010 New York Auto Show. Kias new flagship sedan/coupe looks to be a far more attractive and far more worthy of a flagship designation.
2011 Kia Optima
Just weeks ago Kia released new sketches of the upcoming 2011 Magentis four-door coupe currently known as the Optima sedan in America. The sketches look to be very true to the now official images that have been released ahead of the full reveal set for the upcoming 2010 New York Auto Show. The saloon exudes an athletic confidence from every angle - its raked roofline, high and pronounced shoulder line of its sculpted flanks and its extended wheelbase are complemented by flared wheelarches and a shallow glasshouse that create a saloon with a muscular, self-assured stance. The striking visage of the car features a new interpretation of Kia's bold 'tiger' family face that's edged by piercing projector headlamps.
2011 Kia Optima
The Kia Optima is currently the flagship sedan for the automaker and the next model gains considerable changes in the exterior cosmetics department. The outgoing Optima is a fairly tame sedan, but Kia is replacing its sedan with a much sportier silhouette much more akin to a coupe, than a sedan. So much so, Kia says the 2011 Optima will be labeled as a 4-door coupe, rather than a sedan. Following the theme of recent model revisions, new Kia Optima is longer, lower and wider than before, the Kia's coupe-like profile is enhanced by the sweeping chrome arc that flows from A to C pillar, a distinctive design motif that visually lowers the car further still and enhances its cab-backwards proportions.
2011 Kia Optima
In addition to significantly overhauling the overall styling direction of the Magentis/Optima, Kia says that it will be bringing its next flagship sedan/coupe closer to the ground with a lower stance, in addition to giving it a wider and more stable stance to go long with its longer wheelbase. Kia says the end result is a four-door coupe that has more room for its occupants and cargo alike, as well as a more planted driving dynamic. "For this car we started with a clean sheet and worked to achieve an exterior design with a European feeling and stance," explains Gregory Guillaume, Chief Designer, Kia Europe. To help achieve this, the exterior was designed by his team in Frankfurt. The interior was created by the design team in California.
2011 Kia Optima
Power-wise, the Optima will use the same engines as the 2011 Sonata and will be offered in four and six-cylinder versions. The four-cylinder offering, should it come from the 2011 Sonata, will be a 2.4-liter good for 200 horsepower and 186 lb.-ft of torque all the while getting as much as 35 miles per gallon on the highway. The new D-segment offering is spacious, and with class-leading levels of safety and luxury equipment, the intelligently configured and driver-oriented cabin underlines a newfound poise and presence. "This new model embodies Kia's confident new design direction," says Schreyer. "It's a global car with individual appeal."
The 2011 Kia Optima is expected to hit the market in the fall of 2010, with a hybrid version possibly available at lunch, or relatively soon after.
