The official performance and fuel economy numbers on the 2012 Buick Regal GS are out. When GM revealed the Buicks sports sedan in production trim at the Detroit Motor Show this past January, the company estimated that the Regal GS was good for 255HP and a 0-60mph time of less than 7 seconds. Now GM announced that the Regal GS 2.0-liter direct-injected turbocharged four-cylinder engine has been SAE-certified to deliver 270 horsepower (201kW) and 295 lb.-ft. of torque (400Nm) fat 2,400 rpm or an estimated 0-60 mph performance of 6.7 seconds, or 0.9 seconds slower than the cars European sibling, the Opel Insignia OPC that features a 325HP V6 and AWD.
Following last months presentation of the Opel Insignia OPC Unlimited, Vauxhall introduced its own version of the performance sedan with the VXR moniker featuring the de-restricted package. The Unlimited option removes the standard Insignia VXRs 155mph (250 km/h) restrictor, allowing Vauxhalls range-topper to exploit its all-wheel-drive chassis and 325HP turbocharged 2.8-litre V6 engine to the full topping out at 170mph (274 km/h). After some time in the Regal, we would not go as far as calling this sedan with a turbocharged 2.0 liter engine an enthusiasts choice, but it is probably the closest Buick has come to a complete package in a long, long time. It certainly is the most exciting version of the car since the second-gen G-body model that was introduced in 1978 and was built until 1987.
Buick had been the first GM division to bring a personal luxury car to market with its full-size 1963 Riviera but was otherwise slow to react to the developing lower-priced mid-size personal luxury market, which Pontiac created with the 1969 Grand Prix and Chevrolet with the Monte Carlo the following year, 1970.

Buick Regal At the same time Oldsmobile added a formal notchback coupe to its intermediate line, the Cutlass Supreme, in 1970 and that model soon became Olds' best selling intermediate. Wanting a model that could be marketed to compete against the Olds Cutlass Supreme as well as the Grand Prix and Monte Carlo, Buick introduced the Regal for 1973, as a top line special coupe in that division's intermediate A-body line, the Century. The year 1973 also marked the introduction of the first major restyling of GM's intermediate A-body design since 1968.
The Buick Regal is a mid-size car introduced by General Motors for the 1973 model year. North American production ended in 2004, but the model continued in China. For the 2011 model year, Buick introduced an all new Regal for the North American market, positioned as an upscale sport sedan. Buick Regal
