Alfa Romeo is an automaker with a ton of heritage, yet they have somehow faded into the background in recent decades.

Quality issues and design were issues for Alfa Romeo, until recently. With an amazing upgrade of their offering and especially since the introduction of the Alfa Romeo 8C and 8C Spider, the Italian car maker is more than back on track. We are excited to see this continue with the introduction of the 4C, another sports car that was showcased last week at the Geneva Auto Show.
�Based on the success of their flagship, limited-edition 8C Competizione, introduced in 2007, as well as the 8C Spider, the rear wheel-drive 4C shares a look �shaped by the wind.� Designed by the Alfa Romeo Style Center, the body doesn�t just borrow lines from vintage Alfa Romeo�s, like the famed 6C 1500 and 6C 2500, but uses the same weight and power distribution ratio that made those cars so fast.

Alfa Romeo 8C Spider Racing version

The possibility of an official racing version of the 8C was first hinted at in 2006, within the computer game Squadra Corse Alfa Romeo, developed by Black Bean Software in collaboration with the automaker. Two racing versions of the car were included. Alfa Romeo later announced that they were preparing to race the 8C in events such as Le Mans, Daytona and Sebring.

It is expected that race version chassis will be made by Dallara.

As of 2009, the 8C has not been raced by a factory-sponsored team.
